Matt Leary Wins 2006 Golden Glove Award
March 29, 2007
COOPERSTOWN,
NY - In a landslide, Matt Leary wins the first ever Dog Pound Gold Glove Award.
He led all nominees with 7 votes. Dan and Chuck Doherty finished second with 2
votes, John Breslin and Jason Guidi came in with one vote each and Chris
"Girly-Arm" Doherty finished with zero votes.
"I'm honored to win this prestigious award. I would like to thank Luke Lemelin for all those wild throws. He kept me alert out there, every throw had a one way ticket to the Nokia building" said Matt to a slew of reporters at Dunkin Donuts. Some believe that without Leary at first base, Luke may not have completed one put out.
When asked about his plan to upgrade his defensive game in the upcoming 2007 season, Leary had this to say. "I've contacted coach Breslin to discuss the possibility of using only three outfielders and two first baseman to limit routine groundballs to shortstop becoming triples. We would position the second first baseman either on the shoulders of Leary or deep in the woods beyond first base" Coach Breslin is contemplating the move for the upcoming season yet no final decision has been made yet.
Congrats to Matt Leary on a magnificent year both with the glove and the bat who quietly finished the 2006 season with a wopping .536 average.
