John Breslin Named the 2006 Dog Pound "Rookie of the Year"

November 27, 2006

NEW YORK CITY> Today John Breslin was awarded the 2006 Dog Pound Rookie of the Year Award for his strong contributions for the team both on and off the Nokia parking lot. He edged out both Dan Schuler and Mike Bren who finished second and third in the voting. "I'm extremely excited and honored to be named the Rookie of the Year. I never really felt like a rookie out there. Most guys treated me as though I was on the team for years. I expect a lot more out of myself after winning this award. I've already been working out in preparation for next season. Ok, I haven't, but I might. No I probably won't." said a teary-eyed John Breslin to the media after being notified of the accomplishment.

"He may not have been the fastest guy on the team, yet he was the slowest in the league. He may not have had the best physique on the team, yet he sure wasn't in question of using steroids. He just came to every game with a six pack of natural ice, ready to drink beer and play a little softball afterwards" said long time fan Chuck Doherty in reference to John Breslin.

Below are his 2006 numbers:

AVE OB % HITS AB'S 1B'S 2B'S 3B'S HR RBI  RUNS BB'S GP FC ERROR SAC SLUG OBS % K 30 PKS
.339 .349 21 62 19 1 1 0 14 14 1 18 7 6 1 .387 .736 0 4

Although his numbers weren't amazing. He was very versatile in the field, playing first base, third base, and pitching.

From everyone in Dog Pound land, Congratulations on a spectacular rookie season.
