2008 Season Rapidly Approaching, Yet Who Will Be the Coach?

November 23, 2007

BURLINGTON, MA - The 2008 campaign is quickly approaching and it has become very unclear as to whom will take over the reigns. "I'm still the coach and that's final. Enough with all this hoopla" hollered an angry John Breslin to a group of media personnel outside his home.

Apparently it is true that John Breslin still holds the position, yet most insiders believe that he will lose his title by Christmas. "Softball coaches are evaluated by results. It is a tough job, yet results are results and Coach Breslin lead the Dog Pound to there worst performance ever. I believe his days as coach are over" said Jim Rome on WEEI last week.

Rumors are swirling as to who is interested in taking over the head coaching job for the 2008 season. Dog Pound founder and 2005 head coach Bryan Riley officially declared his candidacy at the end of last season. Most believe he is the front runner at this point. His resume is profound yet he is drastically different in his beliefs compared to Coach Breslin. Bryan's coaching style promotes results as demonstrated when another member of his coaching tree, Dan Doherty took over in 2006. Both members of Riley's coaching tree lead the Dog Pound to play-off births in both seasons. "Bryan was a great coach. I learned a lot working for him during the 2005 season. When he decided to resign after the season, I was shocked yet I stepped up to be the next coach because I understood Riley's philosophies and vision" said Dan Doherty to some drunk chick at The Skellig. The chick quickly left the bar after Dan's insight.

Other hopeful and Breslin disciple is Chuck Doherty. Although he has not officially declared his candidacy, insiders believe he will officially campaign soon. Chuck is a member of Breslin's coaching tree, so this immediately raises some red flags. Chuck was one of Breslin's biggest supporters after the 2006 season. Chuck provides vast experience and wisdom yet most believe he will be just another Breslin. Chuck refused to comment to the media about the allegations.

Another possible candidate is Bill Tammaro. The self-proclaimed "Brockton Brawler" who attended private school in Wellesley while living in Brockton claims to instill toughness and a "win at all costs" mentality to a mostly pompous team. His coaching philosophies are currently not fully understood at this time, yet with a good campaign he could win the vote. "I would like to be the coach, yet I have to give a lot of my effort toward school. After I complete nursing school, I plan to continue school and go to law school. After that I plan to get my doctorate in anthropology" said Bill Tammaro to Sean McAdam of the Providence Journal.

Luke Lemelin is also expected to run for the position. Luke is like Ralph Nader, he runs every year and gets crushed every year, yet he will bring some excitement to the campaign.
