BURLINGTON, MA - Last night the Dog Pound lost a heartbreaker to the Master-Batters in a 6-7 loss. The first inning continues to be a problem area for the Dog Pound. BRYAN RILEY has an ERA of 23.06 in the first inning this season compared to a 6.76 ERA in innings 2 thru 7. "He's obviously needs an inning to settle in and feel comfortable throwing his high arc. Additionally he has been lacking in pre-game scouting, I plan to go over in-depth scouting and develop a strong course of action for each hitter prior to the next game." stated battery-mate PHIL LUONGO after the game.

One highlight of the loss was the continued strong performance of lead-off phenom, MATT LEARY. Leary finally passed MATT GILLIS by hitting safely in a remarkable 32 games, dating back to May of 2006. Additionally, Leary passed LUKE LEMELIN's record for consecutive multiple hit games. Leary currently has 2 or more hits in 8 consecutive games. "He's in a real groove right now. He can hit it where ever he wants right now." said Luke to the media.

Both JOHN BRESLIN and BILL TAMMARO hit safely last night which is a huge plus for the two struggling Pounders. Breslin broke his streak of 12 consecutive plate appearances without a hit and Bill Tammaro broke his streak of 10 consecutive plate appearances without a hit. "If we want to have any shot at play-off contention, we will need these two to perform to their abilities of years past." said Coach Riley.

CHUCK DOHERTY needs only one hit to become the fourth Dog Pound player in history to reach 100 career hits. "I just want to get it over with and behind me. Kori came to the game on Friday to witness the milestone however the game got rained out. I'll admit the media attention is getting a little distracting, however it is quite difficult to block the feat from your mind with every at bat" stated Chuck Doherty to a swarm of reporters blocking his SUV as he tried to exit the Nokia parking lot last night. CHRIS DOHERTY also needs just one single to become the first Dog Pounder to reach 100 career singles.

Quite a few Dog Pound players have significant shots at breaking some season high records. With 6 games remaining, the following records may go down:

RECORD HOLDER CONTENDER ON PACE
RBI (26) CHRIS DOHERTY (2006) CHRIS DOHERTY 30 RBI
WALKS (11) DAN DOHERTY (2007) DAN DOHERTY 14 WALKS
SINGLES (30) JASON GUIDI (2005) MATT LEARY 30 SINGLES
FIELDERS CHOICE (9) JASON GUIDI (2005) DAN SCHULER 9 FC'S
SAC FLIES (4)        MATT GILLIS (2005)         LUKE LEMELIN (2007) CHRIS DOHERTY   LUKE LEMELIN BOTH 1 SHY OF RECORD

Luke Lemelin's season high batting average of .548 and on-base percentage of .566 are also both in jeopardy as Matt Leary is holding a solid .575 batting average and a .622 on-base percentage thru 15 games thus far.
