Dog Pound Sweeps Master-Batters
August 20, 2006
BURLINGTON,MA>The Dog Pound finished strong during their last match-up with the mighty Master-Batters of Friday night. "I think this was a huge win. Probably the best overall game we played this season. The bats were solid and so were the gloves" said Dan Schuler after the game who finished 3 for 3 in the night. The Pound scored an all-time high 20 runs in only four innings before the game was stopped due to the slaughter rule.
The games also displayed the Pound's power through three homeruns, one each by Luke Lemelin, Matt Gillis, and Bryan Riley. Riley's new power surge has league players talking. "You've got to pitch around this guy, he's scary at the plate", said an anonymous Master-Batter player after the game who looked identical to Bryan Riley. "I'm not Bryan Riley, I wish I was though, damn that kid can play. Oh yeah, I'm wearing his shirt because I bought it off eBay, huge fan I am" said the same anonymous player.
Luke Lemelin kept his hitting streak alive Friday night with a 3 for 3 performance. His streak stands at 19 games. A hit on Wednesday will tie Dan Doherty's 20 game streak set back in the 2005 campaign. Can he do it? In order to win the batting title, a pair of hits will probably be necessary.
With one regular season game to go, the Pound will have a challenge facing the very strong FIDO team at Mitre Field on Wednesday. FIDO swept the double-header during their first two games earlier this month. The outcome of this game should really rattle the first-round play-off match-ups.
