Dog Pound Sweeps Double Header

August 23, 2008

BURLINGTON, MA - The Dog Pound played some great ball Thursday night. "We knew we had to win both to have any sort of play-off contention. We are all happy that we did what we had to" said Coach Riley. After the  game, their play-off hopes were put to rest. Coming into the game, the Pound would need to win out and the Master-Batters would need to lose both of their remaining games, however the Master-Batters won that same night to crush their play-off hopes.

The games did however break several team and individual records. The Pound scored a remarkable 24 runs on 24 hits, both new records. Dan Doherty became a member of the illustrious 4 hit club for the third time in his career. Only big brother Chris Doherty has done it more as he has had 4 hits in a game 4 times. "I love them 4 hit games. They never get old" said an overjoyed Dan Doherty to the press.

Most believe however, the night belonged to Matt Leary. Matt Leary joined the 4 hit club for the first time in his career and it is believed that it is the only time in which a member of the 4 hit club also reached via a walk. Matt also became a member of the 4 runs scored club for the second time this season. Only Chris Doherty has done this more as he scored 4 runs in a game, 3 times back in 2006. Last, Leary joined Chris Doherty as the only two Pounders to hit 3 doubles in one game. "I know Leary did good and all yet I think their should be an asterisk next to all these records. They were playing with little kids in the outfield. I didn't even want to play, kids shouldn't even be in the stands when I walk up to the plate. Next year, I may even type up a waiver for all parents to sign before games. I'm not losing out because of my super human abilities" said a fired up Chris Doherty after the game.

Additionally, Matt Leary extended his remarkable hitting streak to 36 consecutive games. The only comparable streak was Matt Gillis with 33. Matt Gillis ended his Tuesday night and he is currently protesting the result. "I know that I had a hit every game back in 2005, my streak is actually up near 50. I'm currently contacting teams who we played in 2005 to vouch for me." said a very angry Gillis. As part of his investigation, officials have proof that Leary did not get a hit in every game during the 2005 season. Leary played in 6 regular season games and only finished with 5 hits. Matt Gillis is offering $500.00 to any fan who may have been at the game and witnessed Leary's hitless night.

The other big highlight of the game was the classic "Lukey being Lukey" event. To those who may have missed the latest chronicle of "Lukey being Lukey", let me explain:

Only in a "Lukey being Lukey" moment would anyone take a sac fly over an easy walk. With only two games remaining on the season, press coverage is expected to be heavy with the ongoing investigation by Gillis and the always interest in capturing a "Lukey being Lukey" moment.
